Nigerian Informal Sector Players to Get Specialized Training And Boost For Improved Productivity And Performance

The National Productivity Centre (NPC) partners with Federation of Informal Workers Organization in Nigeria (FIWON) and Streetnet International to provide specialized trainings and researches for sector players

Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha while receiving the joint delegates of the Federation of Informal Workers in Nigeria and the Streetnet International at his office on Tuesday 26^th June stated that the Centre is positioned and ready to support all sectors of the economy in achieving growth and development through the deployment of productivity tools and techniques, trainings and surveys.

The Head of Delegation, Comrade Gbenga Komolafe, the General Secretary FIWON introduced the members of the team and their mission in Nigeria and at the Centre as the commemoration of the Regional Social Protection Conference/Exposure Visit Abuja which is taking place in Nigeria between the 26^th to 27^th of June 2023 is ongoing. The delegates stopped by Productivity House to discuss some salient issues that concerns the informal sector arising from the 3^rd National Productivity Summit as hosted by the Centre.

After due deliberations and discussions, the following understanding has been reached for immediate partnerships on these areas:

1. Organizing the informal sector for the reach of the Centre
2. Applied research on labour productivity and social protection in Nigeria

• Inclusion of rights and freedom of street vendors into the National Policy on Productivity

1. Specialized training on tools and techniques for productivity improvement of the informal sector in Nigeria
2. Applied research on productivity and public place usage: A case study of Lagos State
3. Applied research on productivity and health conditions of workers in various sectors of the economy

A joint committee of NPC, FIWON and Streetnet International is therefore composed with memorandum of understanding designed to be signed for the engagement in the area of research, training and organization of the sector.

The National Productivity Centre is an agency of the Federal Government under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment saddled with the task of stimulating and promoting productivity consciousness in all sectors of the Nigerian economy, monitor productivity trends and lead the productivity movement in Nigeria to ensure a competitive and productive economy.

The Centre engages in developing the mindset of individuals and institutionalizing productivity culture amongst organizations for the enhancement of service delivery and quality of life through productivity promotion and advocacy,  builds productive capacity through trainings, workshops and conferences, provide professional advises to organizations through consultancy services, deploy productivity tools and techniques to achieve improvement and growth through productivity & quality improvement programme and measure productivity through measurement and index.
