INTRODUCTION/BACKGORUND

The Corporate Affairs and Information Department (CAI) formally known as   Information Services and Publications (ISP) Department came into existence in June 2017 to champion the stimulation of productivity consciousness among Nigerians through dissemination of productivity information, Promotion and advocacy. As an NPO the Centre has a critical role of disseminating productivity information to create nationwide awareness that can raise the consciousness level of individuals and organization in order to embrace the National Productivity Activities and Movement. The Department is very important to the mandate of the Centre to stimulate and promote productivity consciousness in all sectors while driving the process of developing the mindset and institutionalizing productivity culture amongst the citizenry.

While we inspire and raise the awareness and consciousness level of individual and organization in the nation, showing them the importance and benefit of productivity, we deliberately get their buy in and partnerships for the real productivity improvement activities to be carried out for visible improvement by other programme departments. The corporate culture, business culture and work culture of the organization is also managed by the Department with great emphasis on corporate image enhancement.

STRATEGIC MANDATE/OBJECTIVE

The Department keeps an eye on changing government relations, community relations, external and internal stakeholder’s engagement as well as organizational morale for effective performance. The Advisory services, Crisis management, Government affairs, Internal communications, Internal communications that support the Centre in her efforts towards productivity movement in Nigeria. The very first stage of productivity engagement and activity which is the stimulation of productivity consciousness through awareness creation and campaign on the basics, tools and techniques of productivity is our main goal.

other objectives of the department are to:

  • Educate the public on the importance of productivity to the development of the Nigerian economy;
  • Liaise with national and international organizations of related mandate with a view to establishing cooperative and exchange programmes that would further enhance productivity in Nigeria;
  • Publish and document all the publications of the Centre.

Coordinate the Library Services of the Centre.

DEPARTMETAL DIVISIONS/UNITS FUNCTIONS

The Department has two (2) distinct divisions and six (6) units with specialized functions to perform.

  • PUBLICATION AND DOCUMENTATION DIVISION

This division handles documentation of Centre’s programmes and activities while publicizing them through the various publications of the organization. We have two (2) unit under this division being Library Services unit and Publication units. The functions are:

    • Enrich and further provide latest information on productivity improvement
    • Publicize all the Centre’s programmes and activities
    • Maintain and ensure an efficient library services to support research and intellectual needs of the Centre.
    • Documentation of information and other relevant materials.
    • Publication of productivity News, Journals, Information booklets, Annual reports and other NPC titles.
  • INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY

This division has four (4) units performing specific but vital functions for the Centre in achieving the overall objective and mandate of the Centre. The combined functions are below.

    • Organize productivity Awareness Campaign to enhance productivity
    • Create national consciousness towards a sustainable productivity movement in Nigeria.
    • Manage the corporate image of the Centre.
    • Co-ordinate the Productivity Coaching and Mentoring Schools’ programmes as well as the formation of productivity clubs at schools.
    • Organizing debate and quiz competitions at secondary schools on productivity related issues.
    • Conduct NYSC lectures.
    • Organize MDAs lectures for the public sector.
    • Handle all protocol matters.
    • Co-ordinate the NPC Foundation Day Lecture (FDL)
    • Productivity Half Hour on Radio.
DEPARTMENTAL UNITS IN BRIEF

LIBRARY DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH UNIT:

The Library unit of the CAI Department maintains and ensures an efficient and effective library services to support research development needs of the Centre and nation at large.

The Library was established to support intellectual needs of the Centre and the country on Productivity and related socio-economic development.

The Library allows productivity research officers to access materials on demand. Moreover, the library serves the purpose of providing materials.

The NPC Library Unit also provides opportunity for the services of librarians who are trained as experts in funding, selecting, circulating and organizing information needs and navigating of productivity information.

PUBLICATIONS UNIT

The Publication unit is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the dissemination the Centre’s information across the nation. Publication is has proved to be one effective way through the productivity message is disseminated. The National Productivity Centre has over the years produced a considerable number of titles from its various programmes, events and activities, such as; Annual Reports, Productivity News (Magazines), Journals, Flyers, Information Booklet, and on other critical programmes executed by the Centre. Some of these publications have been well received locally and internationally on account of their content validity, quality, and relevance to productivity.

The priced publications, which include Increasing Productivity in Nigeria and Collective Bargaining, are for sale, the non-priced ones are distributed free to individuals and organizations, institutions, corporate bodies, as well as national, regional and international organizations which are on the Centre’s mailing list. The Centre has over the years, also developed some productivity simulation games.

CORPORATE AFFAIRS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS UNIT

The Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Unit overseas all of Centre’s Media, Stakeholder and Client Relations. The Unit is also responsible for the formulation of the organization corporate culture as well as the enhancement of the corporate image of the organization. The unit manages all Centre’s public event as well as facilitates the One Stop Productivity Clinic (OSPC) of the Centre.

 

PRODUCTIVITY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN (PAC) UNIT

The campaign for productivity is one of the key drivers of Productivity Promotion and Advocacy in the organization. The Unit supervises all activities under the PAC initiatives. The Initiatives are: Ministry, Departments and Agencies (MDA) Awareness lectures, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Awareness Lectures, Teachers Awareness Lectures, Productivity Coaching Mentoring (PCM) and Foundation Day Lectures (FDL).

 This unit has the mandate to coordinate, sensitize and educate the generalpublic on the importance of productivity and its implications to every day’s life endeavor. Productivity Awareness Campaign (PAC) is a veritable programme of the Centre that is nationally-focused for extensive propagation of the productivity concept. The programme is executed through the use of Productivity lectures, jingles, debates, commentaries, advertisements, press briefings, interviews, drama, posters and spotlights on the mass media such as TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, productivity News and billboards.

PRODUCTIVITY HALF HOUR UNIT

This is the Centre’s Radio and Television Magazine programme designed to inform and educate Nigerian on the productivity issues, tools and techniques as well as success stories from industries.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND AUDIO-VISUAL DEPARTMENT

This unit manages all the Centre’s social media handles and also covers the events and programmes of the Centre and her Departments for proper audio-visual documentation.

PRODUCTIVITY COACHING AND MENTORING (PCM) 2017

Productivity Coaching and Mentoring is an Awareness Campaign programme aimed at expanding the frontiers of productivity at the grassroots. It is an arm of the Productivity Awareness Campaign programme designed to take productivity Awareness to schools.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME

The main objective are as follows:

  1. To get a group that will be in the vanguard of entrenching productivity for national development.
  2. Teach basic principle of productivity improvement techniques’
  3. Provide basis for spreading productivity messages.
  4. To make the youth imbibe productivity culture early in life.
  5. To create an avenue where the youth are mentored and coached on the issue of productivity.
  6. To guide our youth to make positive decision in life
  7. To adequately position them to take their proper place in the developmental process of the nation.

Since  the year 2016, the Department have concentrated in Mentoring and coaching our youth to ensure they embrace the Productivity message and adopt its culture.The Productivity clubs formed in all schools visited are monitored to ensure they are functioning adequately.

PRODUCTIVITY AWARENESS LECTURE (MDA’s)

The lecture is aimed at arousing productivity awareness in the consciousness of Nigerians, and impacting positively on the public service. The lecture is targeted at the middle cadre of the public sector (GL 08-14) who constitute the critical mass that handles major function in the public sector.

OBJECTIVES OF THE LECTURE

The specific objectives are

  1. To inculcate in the participants, the right attitude to work.
  2. To enable participants to explain the concept and importance

 of productivity.

  1. To apply basic productivity concept in their daily work life.
  2. To enable participants to apply basic productivity improvement techniques in their life.

PRODUCTIVITY COACHING AND MENTORING SCHOOLS DEBATES

Productivity Coaching and Mentoring is an Awareness Campaign programme aimed expanding the frontiers of productivity at the grassroots. It is an arm of the Productivity Awareness Campaign programme designed to take productivity Awareness to secondary schools.

To further awaken the Productivity consciousness of the youth and also energize there thinking faculties, the department organize debate for students in selected schools.

 

Productivity Coaching and Mentoring Inter school’s debate was held on the 15th and 17th February 2022. The topic for the debate was titled “Social Media is Contributing to the Productivity of the Global society”.

The selected schools for the debate were as follows:

  1. Airforce Girls Comprehensive School, Airport Road, Lugbe, Abuja.
  2. Great Height Academy, Kado Estate, Abuja
  3. Government Secondary School, Lugbe, Abuja
  4. Government Secondary School, Dutse, Abuja

The final of the debate was held on 17th March, 2022 at Nigerian National Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja. Prizes were awarded to the winners.
