COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY: THE PRODUCTIVITY IMPLICATIONS

COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY: THE PRODUCTIVITY IMPLICATIONS
by

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) came into being at the end of 2019 and went on to
become an on-going global pandemic. The pandemic has significant consequences on global
health and the economy. It has therefore brought upon us, a new order (normal), with unfolding
challenges and opportunities.

This study was designed to explore the prospects of designing well-articulated measures which
will assist our policy formulators in addressing and mitigating the challenges arising from the
coronavirus pandemic on the economy, while also positioning it to optimally tap into the
opportunities that the pandemic has brought.

The overall objective of the study was to assess how the pandemic has affected the Nigerian
economy with a view to preventing or reducing any negative impact. It is my believe that this
objective has been achieved, to a large extent.

It is therefore my pleasure to present this report to our various stakeholders in the productivity
movement as a token of the contribution of the National Productivity Centre towards effective
management of the pandemic in Nigeria.
